2022 Growth Story

Internship, Identity Crisis, Biggest Decision.

7 min read

Introduction

2022, this year marked the beginning of the turning point of my life. The reason why the "Growth Story" chapter started from 2022, not in 2021 or earlier. From this year on, I started to see my future becoming clearer.

But, of course, even though the path seemed brighter and more defined, actually walking it wasn’t as easy as it looked. I found myself moving forward, only to stumble into darkness again along the way.

Until finally, I had to make a huge decision—one that would determine the direction of my life from that point on.

This was my 2022—when I got my very first internship, went through an identity crisis, and ultimately made the biggest and riskiest decision of my life.

First Internship

Starting from January 2022, I got my very first Internship ever. It was in Human Capital Unit at Telkom Regional 4.

It was all fun and engaging (I even worried it might feel like a utopia—too good to be true🤣). We weren’t just working, but learning and discovering our true potential.

I created many contents for Telkom Regional 4’s Instagram, and one of my tasks was to make a promotional video for an event called Virtual Campus Tour.

That video ended up changing the way my team saw me—along with people from other teams and even my mentor. They realized I had potential when it came to creating creative videos.

This made me realize that sometimes, you just need to show up and do the job at your best for people to realize your abilities and potential.

Move to Level Up

Then came a team rotation. I moved to the social media team for the Level Up company, working alongside other interns.

So far one of my proudest contribution in here was a campaign video named "Simple Things Matter"

I worked on that as my final task, marking the end of my journey as an intern at Telkom Regional 4 and Level Up.

I want to give a big thanks to my mentors: Kak Cana, Kak Karen, Kak Fadiah, and Bu Yani. Also, a huge thanks to all my friends—I can’t mention each of you here, but you know who you are!

Identity Crisis

Actually, that internship experience in the Human Capital Unit was beyond my expectations. But the truth is, it made me realize that social media marketing and design aren’t really my type of work.

There’s no such thing as a “perfect” design—it’s all subjective. Everyone has their own preferences.

This made me feel confused and had no idea about how to perform at my best.

I ended up feeling directionless and can't have a clear target.

I wonder what is the type of work that actually could suit me. Or..is there really a job that can truly fit someone perfectly? Or should I just try to stick with design and social media marketing?

Biggest Decision

A few months after my internship ended, I went back to Jogja to continue working on my thesis. In my free time, I often hang out at coffee shops with my friends.

One of them works in IT Security, and he liked to do his things on his laptop while we were at the coffee shop.

Watching him often got me curious about how IT people actually work.

Then I started thinking, “Maybe I should give IT a try.” Compared to design, IT work felt more clear and structured—if you want result C, you have to go through B first.

There's no such thing as a subjective, unlike design✌️.

That’s when I decided to aim for Network Engineering (Because I’m not really into coding, even though I could learn it if I needed to👀).

I immediately Googled how to get into IT without an educational background in it.

Turns out, there’s an international certification called CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). I think having that certification would open the door for me to land an IT job.

But to get certified, I obviously need the knowledge first—I need to study. So, I signed up for an online course to start learning on my own.

I gave myself one year to study CCNA material before taking the certification exam.

My goal at that time was clear: I should pass CCNA before graduating at the end of 2023.

How's Next?

2022 ended with the goal of getting my CCNA and graduating in 2023.

I expected 2023 to be a very boring year, filled with studying CCNA materials and working on my thesis.

But let’s see how 2023 turns out. Thank you🫡
